Millions around the world dream of peace.  Far fewer take the crucial step to action.  Among those people are the trained civilian peacekeepers of Nonviolent Peaceforce.

NP Civilian Peacekeepers commit to two years in one of our field projects and/or to be available for such short-term assignments as reducing election-related violence or providing protective accompaniment for human rights defenders in vulnerable areas.

NP Peacekeepers are:

  • Civilians, unaffiliated with any military organization;
  • Nonpartisan and neutral regarding the conflicts in which they have a presence;
  • Trained in proven nonviolent strategies for reducing violence;
  • Unarmed at all times, without exception;
  • Paid for their work.

To build its peacekeeping capacity, NP has developed a 10 day Core Mission Preparedness Training course (CMPT) and a 15 day Extended Mission Preparedness Training (EMPT). NP Applicants are first subject to a rigorous screening process, followed by a lengthy interview, reference checking, and initial medical review before being invited to participate in a training course.
