Geneva Call conducts verification mission on landmines use in Mindanao - 04 December 2009
The Geneva Call or Appel De Geneva, a Switzerland-based humanitarian mine action entity, conducted recently a week-long Verification Mission on alleged use prohibited landmines in the provinces of Maguindanao and Cotabato, Mindanao in the context of the peace process between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
A three-man team led by Chris Rush, Programme Coordinator of the Geneva Call, conducted the Verification Mission on November 19 to 24, 2009.
The Nonviolence Peaceforce (NVPF), headed by its Director Atif Hameed, an international non-government organization which had been in Mindanao since 2007 for civilian protection concerns, assisted the Geneva Call. READ MORE
