Event Planning Internship

Reports to: Natalie Brenner, Development Coordinator
Office site: Nonviolent Peaceforce Office, Minneapolis
Hour: 10 - 15 hours per week, plus bi-monthly intern meetings
Terms Available: Fall 2008

Job Summary: Assist the Every Donor fundraising team in planning the February 2009 Carnival for Peace Dinner/Dance/Silent Auction event.

Responsibilities:
• Organize and oversee event planning for Feb 09 dinner/dance/silent auction event
• Work with an already established volunteer to solicit and track silent auction items
• Work with an already established venue on logistics
• Research, schedule, and follow up with caterers
• Work with fundraising team to solicit table captains for the event, design invitations, make calls, follow up, and keep track of attendees
• Create event materials including simple web page, invitations, etc…
• Be creative and work with the fundraising team to consider and choose this year’s theme, and to find creative ways to represent this theme at the event
• Be creative and work with the fundraising team to identify how to increase revenue from this event (which is in its 4th year)

Required Qualifications:

• Experience and ability with excel software
• Attention to detail, and very organized
• Ability to work autonomously, very self motivated and proactive
• Ability to follow written and verbal directions well
• Commitment to the mission of Nonviolent Peaceforce
• Ability to focus while in close proximity to others
• A sense of personal responsibility

Helpful Qualities:
• Patience, persistence, commitment and a sense of humor
• Ability to learn from successes and mistakes
• Prior event planning experience
