We Need Your Voice
And sometimes we need it quickly. One of the most powerful tools of nonviolence: the collective human voice raised against injustice. NP Emergency Response Network (ERN) is a worldwide network of supporters acting as a safety net with nonviolent intervention when pressure on governments or other powerholders is needed.
When an NP staff or human rights defender is threatened, harassed or detained, the quick, forceful public international response can make all the difference in the outcome. That is the sole purpose of the ERN. We only activate the ERN when the situation is critical.
We need you to join the nearly 400 members of the ERN. To become a member you must:
- Be normally in reach by e-mail within 24 hours.
- Be willing and able to send letters by e-mail or fax.
- Be able to follow the instructions in the appeal as to phrasing of the letter and deadlines.
To join the ERN send your email address, full name and address to ern at nonviolentpeaceforce.org. Thanks for adding your voice in defense of peace - and in defense of the peacekeepers.
The ERN WORKS! Past ERN activations:
- A human rights activist and his family in Sri Lanka received death threats. NP asked the ERN to write to Sri Lankan authorities who could protect the family. Protection was forthcoming and the family remained safe.
- In Mutur, NP staff were caught in a crossfire. NP asked the ERN for urgent letters to the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil Tigers to implement a ceasefire. The Peace Secretariat of the Sri Lankan government inquired into the safety of our staff within three days.
